Wrigleyville’s Blarney Stone closing after more than 50 years

Chicago’s Blarney Stone, A Wrigleyville Fixture, To Close After More Than 50 Years

The beloved dive bar will close on Oct. 2 after more than 50 years in Wrigleyville.

“The bar at 3424 N. Sheffield Ave. announced on Facebook it will close when the Cubs’ season ends. Its last day will be Oct. 2.

Fans of Blarney Stone were devastated by the news, and some commented on the announcement with memories of meeting loved ones at the bar, which opened in 1970.

“This bar has been a fixture for so long in Chicago that it’s practically a tradition,” one person wrote.

The dive bar at the south end of Wrigleyville celebrated 50 years in the neighborhood in early 2020. The bar has become known as a hangout where people can play pool or darts while finding respite from the rest of the neighborhood.

Blarney Stone was also home to weekly open mic comedy shows and a frequent stop on the Twelve Bars of Christmas bar crawl — also known as TBOX.

Blarney Stone’s owners did not return a request for comment.”
