It seems the rest of the country is catching on to what Lakeview residents already know: 60657 is a pretty great place to live.
Chicago’s 60657 ZIP code has been named one of the hottest ZIP codes in America for 2026, ranking No. 6 nationally in MovingPlace’s September Hottest ZIP Codes Report.
The ranking is based on migration data from August 2026 and looks at the U.S. ZIP codes that recorded the largest number of moves during the month. According to the report, 425 moves were recorded into 60657 in August alone.
The ZIP code covers a large portion of Lakeview, including Lakeview East, Northalsted and portions of Roscoe Village, putting residents within easy reach of some of the North Side’s best-known restaurants, shops, nightlife, parks and entertainment.
Why Lakeview?
For anyone who lives here, the appeal probably isn’t much of a mystery.
60657 offers something increasingly difficult to find in a major city: a dense, walkable neighborhood that still feels residential. The lakefront and Belmont Harbor are nearby, the CTA provides easy access to downtown and other neighborhoods, and residents can walk to everything from neighborhood restaurants and independent shops to Wrigley Field.
Then there are the distinct pockets within the neighborhood itself. Broadway and Clark bring restaurants, bars and entertainment. Northalsted remains one of Chicago’s most vibrant cultural and nightlife districts. Southport Corridor offers a more neighborhood-oriented mix of shopping, dining and residential streets. And the lakefront provides miles of parks, trails and recreation just blocks away.
The strong migration numbers also come as Lakeview’s housing market continues to show considerable demand.
According to Realtor.com’s September 2026 market data, Lakeview homes were spending a median of just 25 days on the market. The neighborhood’s median sold price was $550,000, up nearly 12% from a year earlier, while the median listing price was up more than 24% year over year. Realtor.com currently characterizes Lakeview as a seller’s market, meaning buyer demand exceeds the supply of homes available.
Within 60657 specifically, the median home listing price is approximately $600,000, while median rent is about $2,200 per month.
Chicago Joins a Fast-Growing National List
Lakeview was the only Chicago ZIP code to crack the report’s national top 10, joining communities in Texas, Florida, Washington, D.C., and Colorado.
The top spots went to Leander, Texas; McKinney, Texas; Washington, D.C.’s 20002 ZIP code; Winter Garden, Florida; and New Braunfels, Texas, with Chicago’s 60657 coming in at No. 6.
While the ranking reflects just one month of migration data, it reinforces something that has become increasingly apparent across Lakeview: demand to live in the neighborhood remains strong.
Between its walkability, public transportation, lakefront access, restaurants and entertainment, thriving commercial corridors and variety of housing options, Lakeview continues to offer the kind of urban neighborhood lifestyle that attracts both longtime Chicagoans and newcomers.
Apparently, 60657 isn’t much of a secret anymore.
