Shop and enjoy, Merry and Bright!

Schoolyard Tavern’s not reopening; space for lease

Schoolyard Tavern closed in October, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but some glimmer of light on Twitter appeared throughout the past year making us hopeful for a return.

This past week, Schoolyard Tavern’s space hit the market for lease, so it’s official that it is not coming back. Schoolyard joins other Southport favorites that are no longer here, including Southport Lanes, Mystic Celt, Justin’s and Newport Bar and Grill among others.

Highly desirable corner location near the center of the Southport Corridor. 2,500 SF of space with a large outdoor patio. Bring your concept to an area with numerous national tenants and to a location that is 2 blocks from the Southport L stop.”

Schoolyard’s cryptic Tweets suggests the Southport institution is coming back

Schoolyard Tavern closed October 4, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but recently has been sending several cryptic tweets that gives us hope it will not be suffering the same fate as Southport Lanes.

The bar is currently gutted on the inside and the bar is completely removed as of August, 2021.

And let’s not forget this tweet back in February:

Fingers crossed they come back bigger and better than ever before.

Schoolyard Tavern Gutted on the inside

The interior of Schoolyard Tavern is completely gutted, and it looks like it’s suffering the same fate as Southport Lanes

Currently, the interior of Schoolyard Tavern is completely gutted and a dismantle of some-sort is underway. The bar and backroom are both completely ripped out, along with all tables/chairs and other items that were once installed. We’ve reached out to Schoolyard Tavern after their final closing last October on what the current status is with the business, but have yet to hear back. No more website, however Facebook and Twitter are still up.
