From Crain’s Chicago Business, a mixed-use development is coming to the former Herdegen-Brieske Funeral Home with about 10 apartments and full retail on the first level.
“A venture led by Chicago-based developer Stonestreet Partners bought a former funeral home in Lakeview that it plans to redevelop into retail space and apartments. Stonestreet paid $3.8 million for the Herdegen-Brieske Funeral Home property at the northeast corner of Lincoln, Southport and Wellington avenues, a 12,500-square-foot building on 0.33 acres, according to a statement from Mid-America Real Estate, the Oakbrook Terrace brokerage that sold the property. Stonestreet CEO David Trandel said he aims to keep the brick building, which dates back to 1918, and find a retail or restaurant space to lease its street-level space. Trandel, who is teaming up on the project with Barrington apartment developer Rick Cavenaugh, also plans to redevelop the property with about 10 apartments. Mid-America Principal Paul Bryant and Vice President Andrew Becker represented the seller, the Herdegen family.”
And more from the Chicago Sun-Times, apartments will rent between $2,500 to $3,300 per month, and national retail tenants are eyeing the spot for it’s prime location.
I will be staying at a funeral home soon enough. Not moving in.
