Two years ago, proposed plans came out on a new TOD development replacing an abandoned building at 3347-49 N. Southport. The original proposal was not received too well by the community, and the developer came back with a new plan, going from 6 floors down to 5 back in November, 2019.

That still was met with mixed reaction due to too many units. In December, 2019, the developer came back reducing the amount of apartments to 27. All other building characteristics remained the same. As of March, 2020, the development has been approved according to Ald. Tom Tunney’s website, and demolition occurred last Fall.

At this time, there is no word on when the development will actually start construction, and we are left to look at a torn-down lot. As we hear more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
5 stories is simply too small given its proximity to the Brown Line and amazing amenities in the Corridor. It’s sickening that neighbors have already pressured the developer to downsize, limiting the growth potential for our neighborhood. They do not own this land, and should not have input on it.
