Ald. Tom Tunney’s response regarding recent surge of crime in Lakeview

From Tom Tunney’s email blast on December 16th, 2021

From Tom Tunney’s email blast on December 16th, 2021:

“Crime continues to be the top concern of residents and I want to announce that CPD will be putting more resources into our neighborhood to combat the problem. The 19th Police District, which covers all of Lakeview,  and the 18th, which covers Lincoln Park, will be seeing 50 additional officers patrolling our beats. More unmanned police cars will also be in the neighborhood as well to help address rising carjacking and robbery numbers.

This week my office also held several public safety meetings with residents and business owners. The first event was a virtual meeting with all three of the Lakeview area chambers of commerce to discuss proactive ways to address crime, such as connecting video cameras directly to the 911 system and increasing lighting. Over 50 businesses attended and I would like to thank the Lakeview – Roscoe Village, East Lakeview, and Northalsted chambers for participating.

Last night I also personally walked with our Police Commander down the Southport Corridor to pass out beat meeting information and to talk with concerned residents. I was joined by Aldermen Martin and Wauguespack along with other elected officials. We will continue to do these local crime walks in other sections of the ward in the upcoming weeks.

The next beat meeting will be next week Tuesday on Zoom. This is an opportunity to meet our local beat officers to hear updated crime statistics and to share your ideas on how to combat crime in the neighborhood. I will be attending the meeting along with my Public Safety Director, Calvin Cottrell. The zoom information for the next two beat meetings is below.”
