A longtime fixture for neighborhood pet owners on Southport Avenue is preparing to close its doors.
Bentley’s Pet Stuff, known for its selection of natural pet foods, treats, toys, and grooming products, will permanently close its Southport Corridor location on Sunday. The closure is part of a broader shutdown that also includes the company’s Evanston store.
The Southport shop has served local dog and cat owners for years, becoming a regular stop for residents walking the corridor with their pets. The store offered premium pet nutrition, supplies, and personalized recommendations from staff focused on pet wellness.
While Bentley’s still operates a number of locations across Illinois and other states, the Southport closure marks the loss of another longtime neighborhood retailer on the avenue.
No information has been announced regarding a future tenant for the storefront.
For many Southport residents, Bentley’s was more than just a pet supply store — it was a familiar neighborhood business where staff knew customers and their pets by name.
The store’s final day of business is Sunday.
