Southport Corridor & Wrigleyville | Week of October 26, 2026

It’s a fairly quiet week for new storefronts on Southport Avenue, but there’s plenty happening nearby. A popular bagel shop is opening in Lakeview, construction around Wrigley Field is moving along, and Halloween festivities are taking over the neighborhood. Here’s what’s happening this week.

New in Lakeview

Call Your Mother Deli opens on Sheffield. The popular bagel shop is scheduled to open its second Chicago location today, Monday, October 26, at 2956 N. Sheffield Avenue. Its first Chicago shop opened in Wicker Park earlier this year.

Founded in Washington, D.C. in 2018 by Andrew Dana and chef Daniela Moreira, Call Your Mother is known for its fresh, New York-meets-Montreal-style bagels and substantial breakfast sandwiches. The menu includes the Jetski, with brisket, pastrami, sofrito, jalapeño and cheese on a cheddar bagel, as well as baked treats.

The Lakeview location has a playful summer-camp theme, complete with a wooden canoe, vintage-inspired pennants and a mural by local artist Kevin Garbacz. Read more at Chicago Food Magazine.

Closings: We haven’t confirmed any new Southport-area business closings for this week’s roundup. Heard about one? Send us a tip.

Around Wrigley Field

Wrigley Field bollard work reaches the commemorative bricks. The security bollard project around the ballpark began October 12, and crews have now removed commemorative pavers along Waveland and Sheffield to make room for the work. The Cubs say some pavers will return to their original spots, while others will be relocated. Owners of relocated pavers will be notified by email.

Sheffield remains closed to vehicle traffic between Addison and Waveland, and westbound traffic on Waveland is restricted between Clark and Sheffield. Construction is expected to continue in phases into early 2027, ahead of the Cubs’ home opener and the 2027 All-Star Game. Gallagher Way and neighborhood businesses remain open. See the construction update at Bleed Cubbie Blue.

Cubs pick up defensive honors. Pete Crow-Armstrong was named the Fielding Bible Defensive Player of the Year, Alex Bregman earned the award at third base, and the Cubs were named Defensive Team of the Year. Crow-Armstrong, Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, Bregman and Dansby Swanson are also Gold Glove finalists. More on the awards.
