The vacant Lakeview building that was previously home to Furious Spoon has been leased by the owners of the popular ramen chain Strings. According to Craig Wolf, the leasing agent for the building, Strings’ owners will open an Asian eatery at 800 W. Belmont Ave. This new restaurant is located down the street from Strings’ existing Lakeview outpost at 919 W. Belmont Ave. Strings also has restaurants in Chinatown, Hyde Park, suburban Aurora, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Despite attempts to reach them, Strings’ owners have not commented on the matter.
Furious Spoon, which used to occupy the 2,000-square-foot restaurant at the busy intersection of Belmont Avenue and Halsted Street, closed in April after serving the neighborhood for six years. The Logan Square Furious Spoon at 2410 N. Milwaukee Ave. is the only remaining location.
Before Furious Spoon, the building was home to Spin Nightclub, a well-known gay bar that operated for over 15 years. What was once a vast dance floor with raised platforms for performances is now a fully built-out restaurant with a 20-foot hood, full bar, and a 1,000-square-foot prep kitchen in the basement that includes a walk-in cooler. Additionally, the building boasts a rear patio, according to Wolf.
