Epic Kitchens Opens 2nd Chicago Location in Lakeview

A new “ghost” kitchen has opened in Lakeview.

Epic Kitchens is expanding its Chicagoland reach to the Lakeview neighborhood and celebrating the grand opening of its second location. The new multi-brand ghost kitchen will house four fast casual brands all under one roof and provide food to every customer through streamlined delivery and takeout options, as well as its first in-house dining option.

“Guthries Tavern, the Lakeview neighborhood bar that brought regulars to tears when it closed nearly 15 months ago, is back open under new management and $500,000 in renovations. The bar was packed on opening weekend with patrons who were delighted and grateful that apparently nothing had changed since they last visited in July of 2020.

Chicago Sugar Daddy Patisserie now open

Chicago Sugar Daddy Patisserie is now open in its own permanent location today after several months as a pop-up, Block Club reports. Sugar Daddy is co-owner James Cox’s nickname, bestowed upon him by friends of his life and business partner Ryann Ibasco for his habit of always bringing baked goods to gatherings. The bakery serves cookies, cupcakes, petit fours, trifles, macarons, custom cakes, and more. 

Chicago Sugar Daddy, 3243 N. Broadway, Open 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday; noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Guthries Tavern is back open!

Finally! Guthries Tavern is back open with new ownership after closing last summer due to Covid-19. From Guthries:

Southport’s Annual Holiday Cocktail Crawl is Friday, December 3, 2021

Southport’s Holiday Stroll and Cocktail Crawl will be back for 2021, after being cancelled in 2020 due to Covid-19.

From the Lakeview/Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce:

“Local businesses are breaking out the holly and staying open late for this annual tradition. The Holiday Stroll is free to attend and features festive entertainment, holiday specials, photos with Santa and more.

The ticketed Cocktail Crawl portion of the event will include over 15 holiday-themed cocktails to taste at participating businesses along the Holiday Stroll.”

Zia’s Lago Vista’s last day is October 3, 2021

Zia announced via Facebook that their last day is October 3, 2021. The space located at 3817 N. Ashland Avenue will be replaced by a Transit Oriented Development (aka, TOD). Rumors are still swirling they may take over the former Blue Bayou space on Southport.

Steingold’s Expansion Plans for Southport Avenue

Steingold’s is officially expanding into an adjacent space next to Candyality. The expansion will include indoor dinging, a deli counter, coffee, specialty food, spirit, wine and beer.

Steingold’s of Chicago relocated this year to 3737 N. Southport Avenue. The deli is doing 2.5 times more orders per month than it did in its previous location and is preparing to expand into an adjacent storefront.

“We just needed more people walking by,” Steingold says. “Southport offers that.”

A restaurant deal is in the works at the old Blue Bayou space

How fast a decade flies by. Blue Bayou closed in 2012 and had been marketed for lease for the past several years. The property has been foreclosed on and we finally have heard through the real estate rumor mill that a restaurant is looking to move into this space.

One rumor is that Zia’s Lago Vista is looking at the space as their current location is being torn down and will be turned into a new development.
