The new store will be part of Belmora, a five-story mixed-use development by Chicago-based Mavrek Development on the former Ann Sather site. The project will include 46 apartments, with the first phase at 919 W. Belmont expected to open this fall.
For longtime Lake View residents, the return is especially notable because Foxtrot previously had a popular location on Southport Avenue in the heart of the Southport Corridor before the company abruptly closed all of its stores in 2024.
Foxtrot’s original run came to an abrupt end in April 2024, when its parent company, Outfox Hospitality, suddenly shut down all Foxtrot and Dom’s Kitchen & Market locations. The company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy the following month, effectively liquidating the business. Foxtrot’s assets were then sold at auction for $2.2 million to New York investment firm Further Point Enterprises, which later brought back several members of the original Foxtrot team and began reopening stores under new ownership.
The new Belmont location gives Foxtrot another foothold in the neighborhood, just in a different part of Lake View. The company says the walkable, transit-oriented location fits its original concept as a neighborhood gathering place for coffee, prepared food, snacks, wine and everyday grocery items.
Foxtrot is also planning another new Chicago location at 2600 N. Clark St. in Lincoln Park as it continues rebuilding its presence across the city.
