The opening of the DraftKings Wrigley Field Sportsbook is just days away

The DraftKings Sportsbook at Wrigley Field, which serves as the home stadium for the Chicago Cubs, is set to open its doors to the public on June 27th.

As part of a 10-year, $100 million marketing agreement between DraftKings and the Major League Baseball (MLB) club, the retail sportsbook will be located near Wrigley Field, specifically at the intersection of Addison Street and Sheffield Avenue.

Initially, the establishment will function as a state-of-the-art sports bar and restaurant, with plans to introduce retail sports betting at a later stage, pending approval from the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) and the acquisition of the necessary licenses. DraftKings has already obtained a license to accept bets in Illinois and is a prominent player in the state’s market.

Although the majority of sports wagers in the United States are conducted online or via mobile devices, brick-and-mortar sportsbooks in strategic locations continue to hold significance. DraftKings at Wrigley Field appears to fulfill this criterion. With the Cubs ranking 10th in terms of attendance, and Wrigley Field being renowned as a hallowed ground for baseball enthusiasts across the nation, the sportsbook is likely to attract a substantial number of fans who simply wish to experience the ambiance of the venue.

Wrigley Field, opened in 1914, stands as the second-oldest Major League Baseball stadium after Fenway Park in Boston and is considered an iconic symbol of the game. Its status as a national historic landmark further exemplifies its significance.

Regarding the design of the sportsbook, DraftKings stated, “The exterior of the building pays homage to the ballpark’s classic green steel elements that help define its iconic aesthetic. A substantial portion of the facade features glass, which creates an airy feel and allows for unobstructed views into and outside the venue.”

Construction on the venue began in March 2022, with Marquee Development and Pepper Construction collaborating on the project.

Once operational, the DraftKings sportsbook at Wrigley Field will benefit from the complete schedule of 81 home games played by the Cubs each year, starting from 2024. However, the venue’s appeal will not be limited to the MLB season alone.

Chicago, known for its passionate sports culture, coupled with the allure of the Wrigleyville neighborhood, ensures a steady flow of visitors. Moreover, the sportsbook offers more than just betting opportunities, featuring a bar, restaurant, and space for corporate events. Additionally, it caters exclusively to individuals aged 21 and above.

“The DraftKings Sportsbook at Wrigley Field is located at 1012 W. Addison St. and will operate from 4-11 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, from 9-2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. Please note that operating hours are subject to change based on event programming around the Wrigley Field campus,” stated DraftKings.
