Plans have been unveiled for a new four-story mixed-use development at 2858 N. Halsted Street, at the corner of Halsted and George Street in Lakeview. The project would replace the existing one-story building and rear patio currently occupied by George Street Pub.
Developer Contemporary Concepts Inc. is behind the proposal, with Chicago architecture firm Eckenhoff Saundersdesigning the building.
The new structure would rise approximately 56 feet and extend from Halsted Street to the rear alley. The ground floor would include about 1,367 square feet of retail space, a residential lobby and two apartments.
The upper floors would contain another 18 apartments, bringing the total to 20 residential units. The mix would include three studios, ten two-bedroom units, six three-bedroom units and one four-bedroom unit. Four apartments would be designated affordable housing.
Only one residence would have a private balcony, but all residents would have access to a large shared rooftop deck facing northeast.
The development would include no on-site parking. The exterior is planned with multi-tone brick, red-brick detailing and black metal accents.
The project still requires zoning approval, and no construction timeline or estimated cost has been announced.
