Current view of the development site at 3347–49 N. Southport Avenue

The long-delayed development at 3347–49 N. Southport Avenue appears to have received another extension, raising questions about when construction will finally begin.

A building permit record dated October 7, 2026, indicates a final reinstatement of original permit No. 100911066. The record states that work must begin or an inspection must be requested by October 2027, potentially giving the developer another year to move forward.

As Southport Corridor Chicago previously reported, the property has remained in development limbo despite earlier approvals and construction plans.

The 44th Ward website continues to list the project as “Under Construction,” but no new construction start date or updated timeline has been confirmed publicly.

The October 2027 deadline was identified through a third-party permit database and has not yet been independently verified against the City of Chicago’s official permit record. A reinstated permit does not necessarily mean construction is imminent.

For now, the question remains: Will construction finally begin, or is this another year of waiting?
