Your first look at 3401 N. Southport’s Proposed TOD

As we have blogged in the past, Rise Sushi and Galleria Liquors site locations are being proposed for this Transit Oriented Development (TOD).

From Monday night\’s WLVN meeting, the group voted yes (27-18) in recommending the Southport TOD mixed-use building at 3401-09 N. Southport. Residents would not be able to obtain a 383 street parking pass, thus, occupants would rely on public transportation.

This article from Curbed Chicago maps out why TODs are are needed throughout Chicago including Lakeview and Southport, and it should be noted that the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce is in favor of this project (more people living without cars in dense urban areas = more dollars being spent in the local area).

It was also noted that Galleria Liquors would be returning as a tenant. No word yet on Rise Sushi.

What are your thoughts?

  1. The key line is this: \”Residents would not be able to obtain a 383 street parking pass\”The people posting fliers all over the neighborhood are basing their hysteria on the residents of the new building taking up all the street parking in the neighborhood. This alleviates those concerns. I never took those fliers too seriously anyways as they have other pieces of info on there that clearly point out that the author is uninformed.
