Both of Boston Market’s Chicago branches, as well as numerous others across the nation, have closed their doors. The Labor Department is currently investigating the chain for wage theft. The shuttered locations in Lakeview (3020 N. Ashland Avenue) and Hyde Park (1424 E. 53rd Street) have left a teaser on the restaurant’s website, hinting at an exciting upcoming development with the message “COMING SOON… Something Amazing Is Being Roasted.”
Back in 1985, Boston Market emerged as a competitor to KFC during a brief era when rotisserie chicken gained popularity among Americans who were steering away from fried foods. Over time, the fast-casual chain underwent a name change and expanded its menu to include meatloaf and turkey. Notably, “rotisserie baseball,” a type of fantasy baseball, derived its name during the same craze.
In Lakeview, the restaurant was recognized for its sunrooms, a relic of the ’80s and ’90s, reminiscent of the practice at establishments like Wendy’s, aiming to provide customers with a more upscale dining experience.
Boston Market was my favorite. Should not have tweaked or tampered with the menu. The traditional thanksgiving dinner any day of the week was great idea.
