Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, CDPH Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady announced Tuesday the city will remove the mask and vaccine requirements for certain public spaces on February 28. This is in alignment with the State of Illinois.

COVID-19 Cases are up, so Chicago’s Mask Mandate will Remain

Ever since Gov. J.B. Pritzker teased the state that he’d like to eliminate the indoor mask mandate by Thanksgiving, restaurant and bar owners have awaited an update. With the thermometer sinking and the end of daylight saving time, patio business has predictably tanked. However, early fall stats from health experts show the mandate won’t be banished anytime soon. The mask mandate was reinstated in August.

Wrigley Field’s New Mask Mandate

Starting Friday, August 20, Chicago will require masks at all indoor public areas. The Chicago Cubs have now issued how this will apply at Wrigley Field.

Chicago to require indoor masks again

Starting Friday, anyone aged 2 and older will have to wear a face mask in indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccine status.

“With the highly transmissible Delta variant causing case rates to increase, now is the time to re-institute this measure to prevent further spread and save lives,” Chicago public health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said in a statement. “We continue to track the data closely and are hopeful this will only be temporary and we can bend the COVID curve, as we’ve done in the past.”

Illinois school mask mandate to take effect immediately in K-12 schools, daycares, Pritzker says

The decision is being praised by school mask advocates, and criticized by those favoring choice.

Gov. JB Pritzker announced a statewide school mask mandate Wednesday afternoon as the delta variant spreads in Illinois. It will apply to all K-12 schools and daycares, both public and private.

Pritzker made the announcement after watching key COVID indicators going up – and after seeing so many school districts across the state deciding to make masking optional.
