The Chicago Cubs are seeking city approval to place two significant corporate logo signs on rooftops adjacent to Wrigley Field, as reported by Danny Ecker of Crain’s. Alderman Bennett Lawson is anticipated to present an ordinance to the city council today, allowing the installation of a sizable Coca-Cola sign and an additional LED sign promoting Benjamin Moore. These signs, representing two of the team’s major sponsors, would be prominently visible from within the ballpark, positioned just beyond the left- and right-field foul poles.
If approved by the city council, these new signs would not only introduce prominent visual features outside the bleachers at Wrigley Field, but would also underscore the benefits accruing to the Ricketts family, owners of the Cubs, following years of steadily acquiring property around the historic venue. The financial terms of the signage rights on the rooftop buildings, including payments from Coca-Cola and Benjamin Moore, remain undisclosed. However, it’s noted that these investments would complement existing sponsorship assets within the stadium, aligning the brands with the Cubs’ top-tier, long-standing corporate partners.
Julian Green, Cubs Senior Vice President of Communications and Community Affairs, clarified that the new rooftop signs would not count towards the six outfield signs approved by the Commission on Chicago Landmarks in 2014. Of those six, the team has already erected three, including two on outfield video boards and a large corporate logo sign in left field, installed in 2016.
