Former Chicago Cubs President Theo Epstein and his wife, Marie, have successfully sold their Lakeview mansion for a notable $3.5 million. The six-bedroom residence, boasting 7,000 square feet of luxurious living space adorned with brick and limestone accents, changed hands on Friday. The sale comes in the wake of their acquisition just last year of an opulent $11.9 million mansion in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Renowned for his significant role in the baseball world, Theo Epstein transitioned into a consultant position for Major League Baseball after his tenure as the Cubs’ head concluded in November 2021. His leadership saw the Cubs clinch the illustrious 2016 World Series title.
The Lakeview mansion had been a part of the Epstein story since late 2011 when the couple purchased it for $3.25 million. At that juncture, the mansion was a newly constructed marvel. In a spirited contest, the Epsteins outbid Patrick Sharp, a former star of the Chicago Blackhawks, to claim ownership of the property.

The mansion initially made its appearance on the market in September 2022, listed for $3.6 million through a discreet real estate agent network. While it briefly entered a contract, the deal unfortunately unraveled. Undeterred, the Epsteins, in collaboration with their listing agent Jeff Lowe of Compass, relisted the residence publicly, this time with an increased asking price of $3.75 million.
The couple opted to offer the mansion for rent in December 2022, setting the monthly rent at $19,000. However, the property was withdrawn from the rental market by the end of the same month. Subsequently, the Epsteins reintroduced the mansion to the market in July at a price point of $3.6 million. Ultimately, the mansion found its new owner on August 25, fetching a final sale price of $3.5 million.
Nestled upon a generously sized 37.5-foot lot, the mansion presents an array of exquisite features. The residence encompasses five full bathrooms, augmented by two half-bathrooms for convenience. Elegance is further showcased through meticulous millwork and built-ins throughout the interior, harmonizing with high ceilings that amplify the sense of space. The living room stands adorned with a bespoke limestone fireplace, infusing the space with sophistication. A captivating curved staircase crowned by a skylight above adds architectural intrigue. The kitchen, a centerpiece of culinary artistry, boasts a resplendent marble island, a commodious walk-in pantry, and commercial-grade appliances that cater to the most discerning culinary enthusiasts.
