Foxtrot to reopen stores

Chicago-based Foxtrot has announced plans to reopen several locations following the abrupt closures of its stores earlier this spring.

A Foxtrot spokesperson confirmed that the Gold Coast and Old Town locations will reopen. A complete list of reopening stores, including “several” in the Chicago area, will be announced at a later date. At this time, there is no confirmation on the Southport location, and the property is still listed for lease.

On Instagram, the owners posted a photo of the sky with the caption, “A new Foxtrot with some old friends. Coming soon.”

Foxtrot Market and Dom’s Kitchen & Market closed their stores on April 23, just six months after announcing a merger. Less than a month later, the companies filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in Delaware. Foxtrot’s assets were sold for $2.2 million at a May 10 auction. The closures included Dom’s Chicago locations and all 33 Foxtrot stores in Chicago, Texas, and the Washington, D.C. area. The reopenings will include locations in Chicago, Dallas, and Austin.

Following the closures, former employees sued the parent company, accusing management of failing to give the required notice of layoffs or proper severance pay.

The federal lawsuit filed in Chicago claims that Outfox Hospitality violated federal and state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Acts by laying off workers without warning. Both laws require employers to provide at least 60 days’ notice before mass layoffs. The lawsuit seeks class-action status for all Dom’s and Foxtrot employees, demanding 60 days of severance pay and benefits. Delivery services were halted, mobile apps went dark, and store credit cards were cut off. All Foxtrot and Dom’s account credits and member perks were voided.
