The Lakeview Taco Fest returns this weekend featuring gourmet and classic tacos from more than a dozen local eateries.
The Taco Fest runs 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, taking over the Southport Corridor from Addison to Roscoe streets.
This will be the ninth iteration of the festival, which was canceled last year because of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Hank Zemola, CEO of organizer Special Events Management.
“It feels so great to be back,” Zemola said. “Our events this summer continue to be successful and the general public really seems like they’re itching to be out and attending.”
Participating restaurants will offer a mix of traditional and imaginative tacos stuffed with everything from chicken, chorizo and ground beef to mushrooms, seafood, goat and duck. Various beer-and-taco parings will be available throughout the weekend.

- Salsita, 3706 N. Halsted St.
- Tacos Loteria, 3329 W. Armitage Ave.
- Tacos Nietos, 2863 E. 95th St.
- Taqueria la Ciudad, 5005 S. Ashland Ave.
- Beat Kitchen, 2100 W. Belmont Ave.
- DS Tequila, 3352 N. Halsted St.
The festival will also feature Latin music and local bands across two stages. The full lineup can be found on Taco Fest’s website.
Lucha Libre-style Mexican wrestlers will also face off at 5 p.m. both nights, Zemola said.
“It’s always packed and a lot of fun,” Zemola said. “They dress in traditional Mexican-style costumes and they’re very visual and engaging with the audience. Everyone loves it.”
A $10 donation is suggested to enter the event. Money will benefit the Friends of Lakeview, a local nonprofit that supports the local business community.
