Southport Corridor Changes into 2018

Whether you are new to the area or a long-time resident, one thing is for certain: nothing is permanent except change. So if you can’t keep up with all of the changes happening to Chicago’s Southport Corridor, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
Here is a summary of what to expect into 2018:
  1. Kai Sushi is coming to 3819 N. Southport
  2. Digits Nail Salon has closed, space for lease
  3. Ivivva by Lululemon is closed. Space currently for lease
  4. Rise Sushi and Galleria Liquors will be replaced by this Transit Oriented Development (TOD), Chase Bank and Chipotle could be possible tenants
  5. Taco Bell and an auto body shop on Addison by Wrigley Field will be replaced by new developments
  6. 1035 W. Addison to be redeveloped 
  7. The former Blue Bayou space is for lease
  8. Tied House is coming to the former Harmony Grill location
  9. Paperchase is coming to Southport Avenue
  10. Leahy and Ladue is closed, 312 Estates Real Estate Office is coming
  11. Capital One Cafe with Peet\’s Coffee will open in the fall 2017 at 3435 N. Southport
  12. Venus Restaurant is coming from The Mercury Theater in Cullen\’s former space
  13. Mint Julep is now closed, national retail coming in
  14. A new mixed-use TOD development is coming to 3334 N. Southport Avenue
  15. Basics Salon at 3542 N. Southport is currently for lease or for redevelopment in 2019-2020
  16. Target is moving into the former Whole Foods space on Ashland in October
  17. Large-scale mixed-use development coming to 1356 W. Wellington Avenue with an American Mattress store (stalled)
  18. Addison & Clark development is underway; Shake Shack, Cinemex Movie Theater, Harley Davidson and Lucky Strike will be anchor tenants
  19. Hotel Zachery with Big Star Chicago, McDonald\’s and several other restaurants coming to Wrigleyville
  20. Cafe Tola is expanding into the Sweet Sensations former space
  21. Bow Truss Coffee Roasters was coming to Southport & Belmont (But who knows what will happen now)
  22. F.I.S.H. Poke Bar, Milk Money, Blue Crown Wings, Mac Royale and Melt 35 delivery/pickup only kitchen have all closed at 3208-10 N. Southport
  23. FlatTop Grill former space is for lease

3401-09 N. Southport Avenue TOD Development will start in 2018

As you may recall, this transit oriented development approved in 2015 will be starting construction in 2018. Planning had started back in 2014, and this new development will reside on what is now Galleria Liquors and Rise Sushi. Galleria Liquors is slated to return to this site, while Rise Sushi is not. Community Meeting April 24 to Review Southport Transit-Oriented Development Proposal

Another TOD has been proposed on Southport in the current location of both Spotless Cleaners and Sushi Mura next to CVS. There will be a meeting on Monday, April 24 at Mercury Theater at 7:00 PM to discuss this development according to the Southport Neighbors Association.

From Southport Neighbors:

A second vote will be taken on the proposed TOD at 3647-49 Southport. The developers will be presenting a new design which includes a proposed 11′ setback on the fifth floor. SNA members in good standing for the past 90 days (photo ID required) are eligible to vote on this development per our bylaws.

3334 N. Southport coming down, making way for a new Transit Oriented Development

Say goodbye to the existing structure across the street from Coda Di Volpe. 3334 N. Southport is in the process of being torn down to make room for a new mixed-use retail and residential building. It seems that Southport south of Roscoe development is heating up – if only they can now do something with this building!

Southport and Wellington Redevelopment Plan from February, 2017

Plans for the Lincoln/Southport/Wellington redevelopment have come to light, and the renderings below were presented to the South Lakeview Neighbors association. Neighbors voted against this development per DNA Info Chicago 33-7.

“We were all under the impression we knew what it was going to be, and now you’re saying, ‘Well, we’re not doing that,” said Amy Rosenwasser, a member of the group’s board. “That building has sat there, basically an eyesore, for some time, so why can’t you do what you started?”

3334 N. Southport Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Gets Rendered

You may recall in late 2015, a public notice went up at 3334 N. Southport Avenue for a new mixed-use development with retail across the street from Coda Di Volpe. New renderings of the proposed development have surfaced on Tom Tunney’s website, and here is what could be coming to the space. The project is still in the discussion stage, and it would be the third proposed TOD for Southport between Belmont and Grace.

Proposed Transit Oriented Development (TOD) at 3647-49 Southport Avenue

Another TOD has been proposed on Southport in the current location of both Spotless Cleaners and Sushi Mura next to CVS. There will be a meeting on Monday, October 17 at Mercury Theater at 7:00 PM to discuss this development according to the Southport Neighbors Association.

“Proposed Transit Oriented Development (TOD) at 3647-49 Southport: Learn about this proposed development, tentatively planned for 5 stories, 21 mostly 1 bedroom units, with 5 parking spots, 1 car share spot, and 42 bike parking spots.
This development is still in the planning stages, so it is extremely important that you attend Monday\’s meeting to learn all the details and to provide your input.”

Amazon Books rumored to be coming to Southport’s former Mystic Celt’s space

Mystic Celt has been closed since the New Year, and Amazon.com’s brick and mortar bookstore is rumored to be coming to 3443 N. Southport Avenue. Amazon currently has a store in Seattle, and is opening other outlets soon in San Diego, California and Portland, Oregon. Rumors are swirling on New York’s Hudson Yards as well.

Amazon plans on opening hundreds of bookstores in the coming years.

J. Crew opened in Chicago’s Southport Corridor district on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 and here are photos of the new store. J. Crew is located at 3441 N. Southport Avenue.
