Proposed Transit Oriented Development (TOD) at 3647-49 Southport Avenue

Another TOD has been proposed on Southport in the current location of both Spotless Cleaners and Sushi Mura next to CVS. There will be a meeting on Monday, October 17 at Mercury Theater at 7:00 PM to discuss this development according to the Southport Neighbors Association.

From Southport Neighbors:

“Proposed Transit Oriented Development (TOD) at 3647-49 Southport: Learn about this proposed development, tentatively planned for 5 stories, 21 mostly 1 bedroom units, with 5 parking spots, 1 car share spot, and 42 bike parking spots.
This development is still in the planning stages, so it is extremely important that you attend Monday\’s meeting to learn all the details and to provide your input.”

Amazon Books rumored to be coming to Southport’s former Mystic Celt’s space

Mystic Celt has been closed since the New Year, and Amazon.com’s brick and mortar bookstore is rumored to be coming to 3443 N. Southport Avenue. Amazon currently has a store in Seattle, and is opening other outlets soon in San Diego, California and Portland, Oregon. Rumors are swirling on New York’s Hudson Yards as well.

Amazon plans on opening hundreds of bookstores in the coming years.

Southport Corridor Changes into 2017

Interior demolition of the former Mystic Celt building to start soon

A permit has been approved to demolish the interior of Mystic Celt.  A very similar permit was issued for the new Billy Lawless restaurant before it was demolished to make way for a new restaurant, so time will tell if the building will be torn-down or just gutted and revamped for new retail tenants.

Mystic Celt’s Last Day of Business on Southport is January 3, 2016

From earlier this year, the owner of Mystic Celt had sold the building to L3 Capital, and it has been marketed for lease over the past several months. It has now been confirmed that Mystic\’s last day of business on Southport will be January 3, 2016. Look for new retail and/or food establishments coming over the next several months. The property is currently being marketed for up to three separate store-fronts.

New Mixed-Use Development Proposed for 3334 N. Southport Avenue

Records have been filed with the Office of the City Clerk to rezone 3334 N. Southport Avenue into a 4-story mixed-use development with retail on the first level.  There would be a total of 8 dwelling units including in this development. Since it is so close to Southport\’s CTA station, it could be considered a TOD.
