As you may recall, this transit oriented development approved in 2015 will be starting construction in 2018. Planning had started back in 2014, and this new development will reside on what is now Galleria Liquors and Rise Sushi. Galleria Liquors is slated to return to this site, while Rise Sushi is not. Community Meeting April 24 to Review Southport Transit-Oriented Development Proposal
A second vote will be taken on the proposed TOD at 3647-49 Southport. The developers will be presenting a new design which includes a proposed 11′ setback on the fifth floor. SNA members in good standing for the past 90 days (photo ID required) are eligible to vote on this development per our bylaws.

Say goodbye to the existing structure across the street from Coda Di Volpe. 3334 N. Southport is in the process of being torn down to make room for a new mixed-use retail and residential building. It seems that Southport south of Roscoe development is heating up – if only they can now do something with this building!

Southport and Wellington Redevelopment Plan from February, 2017
Plans for the Lincoln/Southport/Wellington redevelopment have come to light, and the renderings below were presented to the South Lakeview Neighbors association. Neighbors voted against this development per DNA Info Chicago 33-7.
“We were all under the impression we knew what it was going to be, and now you’re saying, ‘Well, we’re not doing that,” said Amy Rosenwasser, a member of the group’s board. “That building has sat there, basically an eyesore, for some time, so why can’t you do what you started?”

3334 N. Southport Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Gets Rendered
You may recall in late 2015, a public notice went up at 3334 N. Southport Avenue for a new mixed-use development with retail across the street from Coda Di Volpe. New renderings of the proposed development have surfaced on Tom Tunney’s website, and here is what could be coming to the space. The project is still in the discussion stage, and it would be the third proposed TOD for Southport between Belmont and Grace.

Proposed Transit Oriented Development (TOD) at 3647-49 Southport Avenue
Another TOD has been proposed on Southport in the current location of both Spotless Cleaners and Sushi Mura next to CVS. There will be a meeting on Monday, October 17 at Mercury Theater at 7:00 PM to discuss this development according to the Southport Neighbors Association.

Amazon Books rumored to be coming to Southport’s former Mystic Celt’s space
Mystic Celt has been closed since the New Year, and Amazon.com’s brick and mortar bookstore is rumored to be coming to 3443 N. Southport Avenue. Amazon currently has a store in Seattle, and is opening other outlets soon in San Diego, California and Portland, Oregon. Rumors are swirling on New York’s Hudson Yards as well.
Amazon plans on opening hundreds of bookstores in the coming years.
