New Southport Retail: Lou & Grey by Ann Inc. and Fleet Feet Coming; Ivivva by Lululemon Expanding

According to Crain’s Chicago Business, Lou & Grey, a new line of New York-based Ann Inc., plans to open its first Chicago store at 3442 N. Southport Avenue (former site of Anthony’s Italian Ice and Nail Bar).  Fleet Feet is moving into the former Starbucks location at 3359 N. Southport Avenue, and Ivivva by Lululemon will expand to 1000 sq. feet on Roscoe.

The Red Balloon Company Children’s Store is coming to 3651 N. Southport Avenue

The Red Balloon Co. children’s store is moving to the old Bull-eh-dia’s location, at 3651 N. Southport Avenue.  This building will be torn down and should be finished by the end of the year.

Red Balloon is looking to fight the “big box” retailing that is coming in.

Look What’s Replacing Candyality and Coobah’s Buildings at 3423-25 N. Southport

What’s the answer to Lake Shore Drive congestion? Ron Burke of the Active Transportation Alliance in Chicago says it’s definitely not more cars. Instead, he suggests a dedicated right-of-way for public transportation and other forward-looking solutions. Read his op-ed in Crain’s.

Condo Development Started at 3222 N. Southport Ave.

From Chicago Development News, The city of Chicago issued a new construction building permit on Aug. 14 for a project at 3222 N. Southport Ave. The estimated cost of the building is $650,000.

The project description is to “Erect a new a three-story 3b masonry six-D.U.t apartment building with basement, roof deck and detached six-car private garage with roof deck and with a one-car private carport.”

The property owner is Fletch Development, 5120 Central Ave., Western Springs, Ill. The property sits near the corner of Melrose Street and Southport Avenue.
The average price for homes sold in the area recently was $390,000 according to Trulia.
