Southport Corridor News and Events – Chicago, Illinois
Chicago’s Southport Corridor in Chicago’s Lakeview Neighborhood. All the latest news of what is happening in and around Lakeview's Southport Corridor neighborhood.
New retail and shopping news in Chicago’s Southport Corridor.
Lincoln Park and Santa Monica, CA’s Frankie’s on the Park, a tween fashion store is coming to 3708 N. Southport Avenue, across the street from the new Coalfire Pizza and next door to Subway. You can read more about Frankie’s here from their website.
From Crain’s Chicago Business:
Frankie’s on the Park, a boutique marketplace for tween and teen girls, is opening its second Chicago store in September at 3708 N. Southport Ave. in Lakeview. Founded by Lisa Burik in 2008, Frankie’s on the Park also has locations at 2322 N. Clark St. in Lincoln Park and in Santa Monica, Calif. Crain’s Chicago Business reported on Frankie’s in a 2010 story about entrepreneurs serving the tween market.
Think this will be a good addition to the neighborhood?

The rain has finally stopped long enough for us to get our annual photos of the Southport Corridor during summertime. Some of these view will look quite different next summer with the addition of SoulCycle and J. Crew coming, along with the proposed Southport TOD.

B. Rose Salon is moving two doors north and their current space is for lease. Pure Nirvana Spa closed several weeks ago, and B. Rose is taking over that space. Rumor on the ‘Port is that a restaurant will be coming into the space, but no word yet on what type/kind.

New signs are up and the store at 3434 N. Southport Avenue in Chicago looks great!
We reached out to Alderman Tom Tunney on the status of the proposed TOD at 3401 N. Southport Avenue as far as when development would take place. Per the Alderman, the developers still need to go through the planning commission and zoning committee, and then once approved, construction could start later in 2015 or early 2016 (update, we are hearing now 2017). Galleria Liquors would be coming back as a tenant, but it is unlikely that Rise Sushi will be (they are looking for a new location around Southport however).
From May’s WLVN meeting, the group voted yes (27-18) in recommending the Southport TOD mixed-use building at 3401-09 N. Southport. See the floor plans below, and more detailed designs can be found at this link.

Lou & Grey opened in April in Chicago’s Southport Corridor, and here are photos of the store from their Facebook page. The store is located at 3442 N. Southport Avenue.
As we reported a few weeks ago, SoulCycle will be opening above J. Crew on Southport at 3423 N. Southport. Confirmed by Crain’s Chicago Business:
“SoulCycle said it signed a lease to open a 4,000-square-foot spinning studio on Southport Avenue by early 2016. The New York-based company will open its third Chicago studio at 3423 N. Southport Ave., above a J. Crew clothing store in a two-story building being developed by Chicago-based L3 Capital.”
Look for SoulCycle Southport to open in the first quarter of 2016. What are your thoughts, neighbors?
