Former Caribou Coffee at 3240 N. Ashland becoming a Dentist Office (Wrigleyville Dental)

According to EveryBlock, the former Caribou Coffee that was located at Ashland and School will now become a Dentist office. Caribou closed this past year and are in the process of turning into Peet\’s Coffee, but this location was not included.

A reader on Everyblock says that Wrigleyville Dental next to Crosby\’s Kitchen will be the new tenant, and stated that Crosby\’s will be taking over that space and expanding. Time will tell.

The Red Balloon Company opening in March, 2015 at 3651 N. Southport Ave.

It was announced on The Red Balloon Company\’s Facebook page today that their grand opening on Chicago\’s Southport Corridor will be in March, 2015. Construction is coming along and the new mixed-use building will consist of three upscale apartments with Red Balloon on the ground floor. The Red Balloon Company is a children\’s store featuring clothes, toys and gifts for children.

Ivivva by Lululemon has officially expanded on Roscoe and Southport

As we reported earlier in the year, Ivivva by Lululemon would be expanding into newly built space, which it will share with Fleet Feet. They have moved into their new space and further construction will combine and finish the spaces, per EveryBlock.

Construction Progress: Ann Taylor’s Lou & Grey and Corridor Brewery

Construction is coming along at 3442 N. Southport (Lou & Grey) and 3446 N. Southport (Corridor Brewery. Looks like both businesses have about the same footprint with a distinct look and feel.

Demolition for 3423 N. Southport Avenue Approved

The city has approved the demolition of the former Candyality and Coobah buildings. Look for L3 to tear them down in the immediate future. No word yet on tenants but below is the listing brochure by Cushman and Wakefield (although rumor on the street is that J. Crew will finally find a home on Southport here).

Southport’s Rise Sushi and Galleria Liquors could be replaced by a TOD

From Tom Tunney’s office, there has been a proposal for the Rise Sushi and Galleria Liquors location to build a new mixed-used Transit Oriented Development (TOD). The proposal would include 30 apartments with ground-level retail next to the Southport “L” line.

Per the developer, “It is important to note that NONE of our residents will have the ability to secure a 383 Parking permit. Therefore, since this is a transit-oriented development, residents except for the 7 units that will have access to parking spaces will not own a car. This development will not cause residents to park within the neighborhood since they will not be able to secure the required parking permit.”

The Lakeview Chamber of Commerce agrees with building this development as it would help local businesses and the local economy (more people in a dense urban area = more local dollars being spent). You can read more about the benefits of TODs here.
