From our blog post earlier, developers are looking to demolish the current buildings that house Galleria Liquors and Rise Sushi. A public notice for a zoning change went up on January 26, 2015 for a 4-story mixed-use transit-oriented development. These are quite the rave lately around Chicago according to Curbed Chicago.

Oh look! More small business death on Southport! Everybody loses! Yay!

The neighborhood has lost a lot of housing units to single family homes. On our current path there will not be enough people to support the retail in the neighborhood. I really don't understand why people get so upset when a transit oriented development is proposed. It HELPS business, by bringing in more customers. Furthermore to the admin of this blog, that notice doesn't say anything about demolition. They are asking for a zoning change. This happens all the time, sometimes they get it and their proposal becomes reality. Sometimes they get the zoning change but not the financing. Sometimes they do not get the zoning change and business as usual carries on.

What is happening to the cute Southport Corridor of fun little shops & great restaurants? It's being commercialized into the same generic boredom that you see everywhere else. It's starting to not feel special anymore.

What a bunch of garbage. I hate city planners. Just let the neighborhood have a little consistency and stability for once.CAN I PLEASE JUST LIVE IN A NEIGHBORHOOD THAT STAYS RELATIVELY THE SAME FOR A FEW YEARS

Apparently the Southport Corridor businesses are starting to look like Clybourn which is mainly national chain stores. We need to push back on this like our neighbors to the north, Andersonville did when companies wanted to commercialize Clark street. Thankfully the neighbors spoke up and as youcan see, it has remained quaint with mainly independent stores and restaurants. We need to be more proactive!!

As a resident of the area, I'm wondering where all those newcomers will be parking? Without a parking lot, the neighborhood will become severely overcrowded. As for Rise, I know they have a lease fog 4 years at least.
