Some good news in 2021, Guthries Tavern is coming back under new ownership!
In January, news outlets reported the spring return of Southport Lanes after closing in September, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We have reached out to Southport Lanes, as well as the commercial real estate sector and we are hearing that it is a slim chance that Southport Lanes will be coming back. The listing from Mid-America Commercial Real Estate has recently been updated as well this past month, which never is a good sign of a comeback.

From our previous post, Dr. Martens is opening at 3452 N. Southport Avenue on March 26, 2021.
Small business Alice & Wonder boutique is coming to 3542 N. Southport Avenue, former site of Basics Salon. This will be their second store in Chicago next to Lincoln Park, which is currently located at 956 W. Webster Avenue. With close to 45K Instagram followers, there is no doubt this boutique will be a hit on the ‘Port.

Officially approved – a new liquor store titled Southport Beer Wine & Spirits is coming to Bel-Port Liquors former location at 3201 N. Southport Avenue. You can read all the details here from Ald. Tom Tunney’s website.
A new development is currently being marketed at the corner of Belmont and Halsted called Lakeview Connection. This is currently the site of Fifth Third Bank’s drive through, and will include a smaller version of the branch, with several more retail spaces available. A grocery store tenant has taken the second floor, and the rumor is that it will be Amazon Fresh. More information can be found here at this link from CBRE.

We reached out to Madewell and they have confirmed an opening date for Southport’s new store – on or around April 16th, 2021. Madewell will be taking over the former Lou & Grey storefront at 3442 N Southport Avenue.
