“CHICAGO — The Sill owners say the shop was founded on the simple premise that plants make people happy.
Eliza Blank founded The Sill in 2012. Passionate about plants, she wanted to help demystify them, make them accessible to non-horticulturists and elevate the experience beyond the local garden supply center or big box store.
She started out as an online plant delivery business, delivering the plants herself to valued customers in NYC. Now, the reach has grown to stores in New York City, Los Angeles and right here in Chicago.

As you know, Southport Lanes, the 98-year-old Chicago bowling alley, bar and billiards hall in Lake View, will not reopen after closing last year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Alice & Wonder opened today at 3524 N. Southport Avenue. This is their second store in Chicago in addition to Lincoln Park, which is currently located at 956 W. Webster Avenue. With close to 45K Instagram followers, there is no doubt this boutique is already a hit on the ‘Port.

Southport Corridor – Chicago, Illinois. SoulCycle will be reopening in late July, 2021 after the Covid pandemic shut it down in early 2020.
Attention all Soul-Cycle fans, it looks like the studio will reopen on July 29 per their website. Classes appear to reopen on August 2. You ready to ride again?

We should know more on who the national retailer will be taking over this space later this year.
Gearhead (formerly Uncle Dan’s Great Outdoors) closed abruptly on July 13, 2021 at 3551 N. Southport Avenue. The property space was listed for retail rent in the Spring of 2021 on LoopNet, and is currently listed with Seneca Real Estate. Seneca has signed many retail leases along Southport Avenue, and their listing indicates that the space will be ready for rent starting September 1, 2021. Gearhead was outbid from an unknown national retailer on this space, and was ordered to vacate.
Lincoln Square, Highland Park and Evanston are currently still open per the sign on the door.
We’re going out on a limb here, but expect the building to eventually be demolished for a new property including residential and commercial spaces.
How fast a decade flies by. Blue Bayou closed in 2012 and had been marketed for lease for the past several years. Time is officially up and the property is now being foreclosed on.

A new place to get custom framed pictures is set to open in Chicago’s Southport Corridor, and they are now hiring. Framebridge will open three area stores in Chicago including The Southport Corridor, River North and The West Loop.
Originally an online-only service, Framebridge is breaking into the brick-and-mortar retail space to offer custom framing in Chicago.
The company provides cost-effective and timely framing by owning the entire framing process.
