How fast a decade flies by. Blue Bayou closed in 2012 and had been marketed for lease for the past several years. The property has been foreclosed on and we finally have heard through the real estate rumor mill that a restaurant is looking to move into this space.

One rumor is that Zia’s Lago Vista is looking at the space as their current location is being torn down and will be turned into a new development.
Story developing…

Steingold’s is officially expanding into an adjacent space next to Candyality. The expansion will include indoor dining, a deli counter, coffee, specialty food, spirit, wine and beer.
Steingold’s of Chicago relocated this year to 3737 N. Southport Avenue. The deli is doing 2.5 times more orders per month than it did in its previous location and is preparing to expand into an adjacent storefront.
“We just needed more people walking by,” Steingold says. “Southport offers that.”

We just learned that Sam of the S&G (Sam and George’s) passed away. The S&G has been at Southport and Wellington for well over 50 years. Back in the day, you had to go down to Wellington to get Breakfast- pre Starbucks. The restaurant is still in the family.
Rest in peace, Sam.

RIP, Justin’s bar & Grill. What former bar do you miss most on Southport Avenue?

Chicago’s 2021 Pride Parade has been canceled.
In May, organizers announced the parade would be held October 3.
The parade, traditionally held on the last weekend in June, was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. In May of 2021, organizers announced the parade would be held on Oct. 3.
But on Wednesday, coordinator Tim Frye said they had to cancel the parade for a second time.
“We really wanted and hoped that there could be a parade in 2021. We don’t feel, though, that we can do it safely for everyone in the parade and the people watching,” Frye said in a statement posted to the event website. “We must cancel the parade for the second year.”
Frye said 2022’s Pride Parade has been scheduled for Sunday, June 26, 2022.
